Shabbat 4 Seniors

Our grandma became a young widow when all of her children were still in their teenage or college years. In order to maintain a normal sense of stability, she rolled up sleeves and entered the workforce as a full-time financial advisor.

Fast forward decades later, this same grandma is now living in Brooklyn but WITHOUT her children.

Having married them off, each had relocated somewhere else. However, luckily our grandma is not really alone. You see, every week our mom, aunt & uncles make sure that her favorite Shabbat foods find their way to her door.

This simple gesture makes our grandma feel loved and appreciated.

Our mom and her siblings are able to show their eternal gratitude and respect for the woman who gave them everything. She is the reason Shabbat for Seniors was created. Our grandma is not the only one deserving of this wonderful gesture.

Throughout our community, there are seniors who have given their blood, sweat, and tears to build their families and now find themselves alone on Shabbat.

We, as the next generation, can ease their loneliness by contributing to this wonderful cause and helping provide a delicious meal and dessert so that they feel loved, appreciated, and respected.

It’s our way of saying, “Thank You” “You are not forgotten” and “We love you.”

After all, for all they have done, it’s the least we can do.
